The printer is not properly in Service Mode or the USB connection is loose.

Once your printer is in Service Mode and you have extracted the Service Tool file, follow these steps to reset the ink counter:

Put the printer into using the exact physical button sequence outlined in Method 1, Phase 1 . Open the Canon Service Tool executable on your Windows PC.

The software cannot communicate with the printer because the printer is not in Service Mode, or the wrong Service Tool version is being used.

Click on the or "Waste Ink Pad Counter" button to set the counter to 0. Click "EEPROM" to save changes.

The first time you get the 5B00 error, the pads are likely not saturated enough to cause a leak. The printer is not properly in Service Mode

The printer will print a reset information page showing a "D" value of 0%. Turn the printer off and then back on
