The Evolution of Structural Detailing: A Deep Dive into Autodesk Advance Concrete

Advance Concrete was originally developed by , a European software developer specializing in structural engineering and manufacturing software. It was built to run natively on top of the AutoCAD platform, turning standard CAD software into a dedicated tool for concrete design.

: Instead of drawing lines to represent beams or slabs, users placed parametric objects that contained real-world properties like material data and section sizes Automated Detailing : One of its most "advanced" features was Dynamic Reinforcement

Users could export precise Bill of Materials directly to Microsoft Excel or Word to streamline cost estimation and procurement. 🔄 BIM Integration and Legacy

Tools for defining, placing, and cutting welded wire mesh fabrics across complex slab geometries. 3. Automatic View Generation and Documentation

Advance Concrete comes with global shape codes (BS8666, ACI 315, etc.). Set your office standard before you start. Decide: Are you using Shape Code 51 or Shape Code 63 for stirrups? Standardizing early prevents chaos in the bar bending schedule.

These objects carry structural data, meaning a change to a 3D column automatically updates its representations across all associated 2D views and schedules. 2. Automated Reinforcement Detailing

Structural detailers could define bar spacing, concrete cover, and structural lap lengths visually.

It was designed to work within a BIM workflow, allowing for data synchronization with Autodesk Revit and Graitec Advance Design .

Users could visually inspect the 3D model to ensure rebar cages did not conflict with openings, embedded steel, or other bars. 3. Automatic Formwork Documentation

As the industry moved toward BIM, Autodesk prioritized interoperability between Advance Concrete and other platforms.

Autodesk is pushing heavily into the cloud with Autodesk Docs and BIM 360. GRAITEC is following suit. The latest versions of allow for:

Applying reinforcement templates directly to structural elements (e.g., automated stirrups and longitudinal bars for a beam). 3. Dynamic Documentation and Views
